Accelerated Technology Appointed Official North American Liaison Office of the TRON Association

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 23, 2003--Accelerated
Technology(R), the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics
Corporation (Nasdaq:MENT), announced today that it has been named the
official North American Liaison Office of the TRON Association.
The name "TRON" is derived from "the real-time operating system
nucleus." As an extension of the TRON Association in Japan,
Accelerated Technology (AT) will further the Association's efforts by
spreading awareness of TRON and promoting the adoption of standard
specifications to the embedded market in North America.
The TRON Project began in 1984 when Dr. Ken Sakamura of the
University of Tokyo proposed a large-scale effort to design computer
architectures and fulfill the ultimate vision of a "computing
everywhere" environment, which is recently acknowledged as "ubiquitous
computing" or "pervasive computing." One of the many specifications
that resulted from this project, ITRON, has become a de facto standard
in the embedded systems market, especially in Japan, where it is
widely used in cellular phones and other consumer products.
In January of 2000, Accelerated Technology entered into the ITRON
market by porting their Nucleus(TM) PLUS kernel to the micro-ITRON
interface standard, resulting in Nucleus micro-iPLUS. The micro-ITRON
real-time operating system (RTOS) specification was developed from the
ITRON interface standard. AT's range of micro-ITRON compliant products
has now been extended with a version of the Nucleus NET software
protocol stack that will work with micro-ITRON kernels.
Accelerated Technology's experience in the ITRON market and their
understanding of the benefits resulted in AT becoming the TRON
Association's North American Liaison office. Accelerated Technology,
named the TRON Association North American Liaison Office, will provide
subscribing TRON members with advanced notice of events, news and
other announcements, invitations to TRON events and activities, and
participation in the growing TRON market.

TRON encourages participation in the T-Engine project
In 2001, as part of the TRON project activity, the T-Engine
project was formed to develop next-generation, real-time software and
hardware platforms as an extension of ITRON. The T-Engine project
provides a highly efficient, integrated embedded development
environment by widely distributing middleware and applications as
standard packages and enabling reuse of them. Originally starting with
Japanese companies, the T-Engine project is beginning its third year
in existence. Companies in Europe, Korea and the US are showing
interest in the T-Engine project while more companies are beginning
their support for the project. The TRON Association is expecting to
see additional expansion in the future.

ITRON and new growing projects like T-Engine," said Dr. Nakano. "We
asked Accelerated Technology to be the liaison office for the TRON
Association in North America and we are planning to establish the TRON
North American Chapter to promote the beneficial results of the TRON

American region to build a successful foundation for the TRON
Project."
